September 26

September 26, 2021 – Mount Pleasant, WI to Holland, MI

Before winter hit, I wanted to take another trip out west. I planned it all out, got an oil change, tire rotation, cleaned and loaded the van up, and was all set to hit the open road.

Unfortunately, the night before I left, I discovered my battery system was malfunctioning. Here’s what it was doing.

After unsuccessful attempts to resolve the problem with tech support over the phone, I was left with two options.

Option 1 – Take it to the RV dealer and probably wait a minimum of 1-2 weeks, but probably longer. RV dealers are always short-staffed and always have a waiting list for repairs which can sometimes span months.

Option 2 – Drive 5 hours in the wrong direction to the manufacture of the battery system, but probably get it resolved in a day or two.

Well, I opted for option 2.

The manufacture of this battery system is in Holland, Michigan. So on Sunday night, I left and planned to sleep in the van in their parking lot so that I could get it serviced first thing in the morning.

So with this pit stop included, here’s the general route that is planned for this trip, which I estimate will take about 3 weeks to complete.

I’m happy to report that this was an easy fix. They determined the issue in about 15 minutes and the repair took another 15 minutes to complete.

So, it’s time for a new adventure!

Here’s a timelapse video of my drive from Mount Pleasant, WI to Holland, MI.

Here’s the route we took.

Not the most exciting journey, but I’m glad to have gotten everything fixed up so I could once again hit the road!
