May 2

May 2, 2021 – Troy, MT to Colville, WA

I felt like I had been in Montana for a while, although I didn’t mind one bit. What an absolutely fantastic state.

But today, I’d quickly go through Idaho and into Washington!

Washington State is one of the states I didn’t get to travel in much when I was a truck driver, so I was pretty excited to explore it.

My first stop in Washington was to Rocky Lake where a free, no-hookups campsite awaited me.

I was really surprised at the road getting into the campsite. It was a one-lane dirt road that was probably a good couple of miles into the wooded area.

I was also surprised to see how many people were fishing on this small lake. I was the only overnight camper there though and the only one utilizing the 7 or 8 camping spots they had set up.

Here’s a 360 degree view of my spot.

They had decent vault toilets here which isn’t bad for the price of free.

Rules.

The best way to cook burgers.

Long private drive to my campsite.

This is the area leading into the campground, which we are choosing to use as a walking trial.

Views of the lake.

Along the drive, we made a pretty cool pit stop at a scenic overlook with some nice trails and views. Had to park on the side of the road because the lot was still closed for the season.

Here’s the route we took.

And some highlights from the drive.
